Foodily ("we", "us", "the app") is a recipe and nutrition application that generates meal ideas from photos of your ingredients. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it.
Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address through Firebase Authentication. We use it to identify your account and to let you sign back in.
Photos of your ingredients. When you scan your fridge, the photo is uploaded to Firebase Storage and sent to our AI ingredient-detection service. We retain the photo in your account for the lifetime of your account so you can revisit past scans. We do not use your photos to train any third-party AI model.
Preferences and profile data. Your dietary preference, allergies, calorie goal, and cooking expertise are stored in Firebase Firestore under your user account. These are used to personalize the recipes generated for you.
Saved recipes and meal logs. Recipes you save and meals you log are stored in Firebase Firestore under your user account. We use them to power the in-app Saved tab and Nutrition tracking tab.
Scan history. A record of each ingredient scan you perform is stored in Firebase Firestore so you can refer back to it.
Health data. If you grant HealthKit permission, the app writes the calories from logged meals to Apple Health and reads your body mass to display in the Nutrition tab. HealthKit data never leaves your device through our app. We do not store or transmit your HealthKit data.
Subscription status. Subscription transactions are processed by Apple. We receive only the transactional confirmation that your subscription is active. We do not see or store your payment method.
Firebase (Google LLC). Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Storage, and Cloud Functions handle account sign-in, data storage, photo storage, and our AI-recipe backend. Firebase processes data on Google Cloud servers. See Firebase's privacy documentation.
Anthropic (Anthropic PBC). When you generate a recipe, the list of detected ingredients and your preferences are sent to Anthropic's Claude API through our Cloud Function backend. We do not include any personally identifying information in this request. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
Apple. Sign-in-with-Apple, StoreKit subscriptions, and HealthKit are operated by Apple under Apple's privacy terms.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes. We share data only with the service providers above (Firebase, Anthropic, Apple) as needed to operate the app's features, and only with law enforcement when required by a valid legal request.
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, saved recipes, meal logs, scan history, and uploaded photos from our systems within 30 days. Anonymized backups may persist for an additional 60 days before being purged.
Foodily is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in-app. The "Effective date" above will always reflect the latest version.
